Do you remember the Hulu “Show Hole” commercials where a person was distraught because they finished a show they loved and didn’t have anything new to watch? Well, I’m not saying this is a foolproof plan (in the same way that you can be staring at your closet full of clothes and have “nothing to wear”), but it will certainly help you avoid the dreaded show hole!

It’s pretty common to have a bunch of movies (or TV shows, or books, or podcasts...you get the point) that you’ve been meaning to get to, but when you actually have some spare time you suddenly can’t remember a single one.

Whenever you receive a recommendation or see a preview for something that interests you, write it down immediately! I’ve never had anyone chastise me for having my phone out during movie previews (just make sure to put it away as soon as they end!) and I promise that a friend will be flattered that you are taking a moment to record their suggestion, rather than insulted that you are interrupting the conversation. (Don’t complain to me that you have nowhere to write it down. I don’t believe that your phone isn’t somewhere nearby.)

I use both Google Docs and a notes app to keep ongoing lists. For movies, I keep my list separated by future movies I want to see and movies that have been previously released (both recently and in the distant past). I also use reminders for upcoming movies I want to see in the theater. For TV, I demarcate my list based on currently airing TV, future shows, and shows that I want to catch up on.

However you decide to maintain your lists, it will make finding a new show to binge just that little bit easier!
